Adam Reinwald, baritone

Adam, entering his 10th season with Cantus, started singing in the Oregon Children's Choir Association in the 3rd grade and spent a total of 10 years on that organization. As a boy soprano, Adam sang the lead role in Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Seattle Opera. At St. Olaf College, he sang in the St. Olaf Choir for three years. Adam has performed as soloist with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra and the University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra, and as choral soloist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Oregon Bach Festival. While classical music has been the basis of Adam's professional experience, a love of popular music--from jazz to funk, blues, babershop, modern rock, and contemporary a cappella--continues to sustain his musical interests. An avid sports fan, Adam will occasionally break dress code and don the 'Lightning Yellow' University of Oregon Ducks football jersey on Saturdays in the fall in order to help his favorite team win. In fact, Adam is the only individual in the world with his own fight song, "Mighty Reinwald."

Category I - Interesting sounds in pop

Sting--I love his songwriting as he creates sounds that are not often heard in pop music, not to mention amazing lyrics and interesting vocals.

Ben Folds, Paul Simon, John Mayer, David Gray, Dave Mathews, and Nick Drake all fall into the same general description as above, although I really am annoyed at John Mayer's weak voice in his music.

Category II - Great pop and classical singers- My favorite voices

George Michael, Freddie Mercury, Mattias Goerne, Thomas Hampson, Bryn Terfyl, Marvin Gaye, young Michael Jackson, Bobby McFerrin, Bradley Daup from Boston, Alison Krauss, etc.

Category IV - Favorite music to hear live

A good blues band (with a great drummer) is the best music live, followed closely by great Blue Grass musicians like Nickel Creek and Union Station.

Category V - Guilty pleasure music

Ludacris, Eminem, and Xzibit are all great rappers with amazing style and rhymes. Dirty Vegas hits a chord in me with their catchy hooks. I also grew up on a lot of Classic Rock like Heart, Boston, Bad Company, etc. so that sound is very fun. Barbershop stuff is great to listen to when you want to hear precision and intense singing.
